Regional Consultation on the State of Freedoms of Assembly, Association, Expression and Religion on the Internet in Asia
Abstract
This consultation is organised by the Association for Progressive Communications, Bytes for All, FORUM-ASIA and Global Partners Digital. Dr. Anja Kovacs will be a speaker in two sessions, ‘Unshackling Expression: Laws on Digital Spaces in Asia’ and ‘Brave New World: Big Data and Digital Surveillance’, as well as participating in the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression’s consultation on platform content regulation during the event.
The objective of the consultation is to facilitate a dialogue between civil society and experts from the region with the UN Special Rapporteurs on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, on the promotion and protection of the right to opinion and expression, and on freedom of religion or belief, to brief them on the issues in Asia in relation to freedoms on the internet, and to facilitate the possibility of more coordinated approaches to internet rights violations in the region.
