Network Neutrality Regulation across South Asia: A Roundtable on Aspects of Differential Pricing
Abstract
The Centre of Internet and Society, in association with Observer Research Foundation and IT For Change, and in collaboration with the Annenberg School for Communications at the University of Pennsylvania organised a roundtable on ‘Network Neutrality Regulation Across South Asia: Aspects of Differential Pricing’. Nayantara Ranganathan from the Internet Democracy Project participated and spoke about our submission to TRAI.
The roundtable was organised in light of the TRAI consultation on differential pricing for data services.
The practice and instances of differential pricing were discussed. Accompanying market effects and regulatory responses for such instances were examined. The discussion also considered if and how differential pricing would have an impact on the right to access, freedom of expression, privacy, equity and social justice. The objective of the roundtable was to explore research agendas based on gaps in the debate on differential pricing and zero-rating.
