Myanmar Digital Rights Forum 2018
Abstract
The forum is being organised by Phandeeyar, Free Expression Myanmar, Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business, Myanmar ICT for Development Organisation and EngageMedia. It will focus on Freedom of Expression, the Right to Privacy, Access, and Gender.
Nayantara from the Internet Democracy Project is speaking in a session titled ‘Guaranteeing user privacy: legal framework’ and conducted an open session on understanding networking concepts and telecom infrastructures.
The Forum is a follow up to Myanmar Digital Rights Forum 2016 which is the country’s first Digital Rights-focused conference. It gave birth to #DigitalRightsMM — Myanmar’s very own Digital Rights Movement.
Issues around hate speech, gender-based violence, harassment, discrimination and undue arrests are taking new significance in today’s connected Myanmar and putting individuals at increasing risk of human rights abuses.
Myanmar Digital Rights Forum 2018 will shine the light on these issues, with a particular focus on Freedom of Expression, the Right to Privacy, Access, and Gender. It will bring key Myanmar stakeholders together — including representatives from the government, civil society, business and the policy community — to partake in a discussion on how to shape Myanmar’s internet policy framework moving forward.
