Digital Citizen Summit 2016
Abstract
The Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) and the Friedrich Naumann Stiftung fur die Freiheit (FNF) are co-organising the one-day ‘Digital Citizenship Summit’. Nayantara Ranganathan is speaking on a panel on ‘Online violence against women’ while Dr. Anja Kovacs is speaking on the inaugural session and on a panel on privacy.
The objectives of the Summit are learning, information sharing and encouraging South Asian regional dialogue; and developing strategic partnerships between individuals and organisations working towards a better understanding and advocacy on individual rights in the online space.
The inaugural session will deliberate upon citizens’ digital rights; intersection of online and offline human rights and how they affect each other in our day-to-day lives.
The panel on privacy is going to unpack the issues around big data; encryption; digital attacks; data mining, cyber security; anonymity and surveillance.
The panel ‘online violence against women’ aims to explore how gender-based violence online affects the participation of women and marginalized genders and sexualities in online spaces, what counter-strategies are being developed, and what are the possibilities of cross-expertise collaboration to ensure a safe online environment for women and marginalized genders and sexualities.
