by Shraddha Mahilkar

This is the third and last video of the three-episode series “Deep impact: COVID-19, surveillance technology & marginalised dentities”, developed in collaboration with Khabar Lahariya, the country’s only rural digital news network, which reports on issues that are far from the attention of national and regional media.

Do you use a smartphone? Do the women in your family have smartphones? Do women in your family use the Internet freely on their smartphones?

Did you know that only 27% of women in rural India have access to technology and the Internet, as opposed to a staggering 72% of men?

Not everybody has the ability to access phones equally. Our last video explores how their lack of access to technology impacts women and girls negatively during the pandemic in rural UP.
