The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2016, a United Nations summit, was held from the 4-6 of May in Geneva, Switzerland. Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) organised a session on ‘Creative Internet-Based Solutions to Social and Economic Development’. Anja Kovacs from the Internet Democracy Project was a remote participant at the session.

The objective of the session was to reflect on the role that the Internet plays in inching closer to the Sustainable Development Goals. Anja Kovacs, participating as a remote speaker, raised points about challenges to access for the most marginalised communities, and the consequences of not addressing the exclusion effectively.
