Workshop: The Internet We Need for a World We Want
Abstract
The workshop is being organised collaboratively by the Alternative Law Forum, the Centre for Internet and Society, the Digital Empowerment Foundation, the Free Software Movement of India, IT for Change, Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, the Open Knowledge Community and Software Freedom Law Centre – India. The Internet Democracy Project is participating in the event.
The workshop will be an effort to evolve a participatory process for developing some basic principles and, as required, legal frameworks for Internet governance in India. Participants will include democracy activists, organisations involved with Internet governance, ICTD groups, people with background in areas like education, right to information, women’s empowerment, media etc, as well as activist techies. The main focus at the workshop will be to agree upon and adopt an appropriate participatory process for developing a vision and a set of principles for the Internet in India. The process that will emerge out of this exercise will then be followed through appropriately by employing online media and offline meetings across the country.
