Roundtable Discussion on Empowering Women through ICTs in India

The Imperial Hotel, New Delhi

This meeting was organised by USAID and FHI 360. It was an opportunity to share perspectives with other technology providers and development practitioners on what is working, what is not, and what barriers remain in empowering women through ICT’s in India. Rajat Rai Handa represented the Internet Democracy Project in this roundtable discussion.

The objective of the meeting was specified to identify key barriers to addressing digital gender inequalities in India, and the contributors to those barriers. The discussion then addressed the following questions:

  • What are the key barriers? 
    Here, participants identified key barriers to addressing digital gender inequalities in India and prioritized them based on significance. 

  • What are the main contributing factors to those barriers?
    Here, participants wrote up and shared examples of factors that are contributing to the perpetuation of those barriers.

  • What are some promising approaches? 
    Here, Participants shared examples or new ideas about how to reduce barriers and their contributing factors.
