CREA COVID Talks: A Pandemic of Power and Exclusion
Abstract
CREA’s COVID Talks will be highlighting the voices of feminist academics and practitioners from the global South, and exploring feminist responses to COVID-19. In this first event in the series, Dr. Anja Kovacs will be speaking about surveillance and governance in India.
Apart from Dr. Anja Kovacs, the speakers at this event are:
Iromi Perera, a Colombo-based researcher and activist. Her work focuses on land rights, specifically evictions and dispossession in Colombo, spatial justice, contested sacred sites, and eminent domain.
Janset Kalan, a transgender human rights activist, and LGBTI+ activist based in Ankara, Turkey. She holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations. She works as a full time sex-worker. She has contributed to movements in Turkey for years, training communities and lobbying and advocating at the international level.
The discussion will be moderated by Srilatha Batliwala — a feminist activist, researcher, scholar and trainer whose four and a half decades of work has spanned movement building, research and scholarship, policy advocacy, grant-making, and capacity-building of young women activists. She is best known for bridging the worlds of theory and practice, and for her writing on feminist approaches to movement building and feminist leadership.
